Police ‘concerned’ for missing Springburn man who was last seen five days ago

Police are ‘concerned’ for the wellbeing of a missing Springburn man as it hits five days since he was last seen.

An appeal has been launched in a bid to find 49-year-old Ian McAlpine who was reported missing from Springburn on January 7.

Ian – who does not have money or a phone with him – was last seen at around 9pm on Tuesday, January 7 in the Balornock Road area of Springburn. He is described as white, Scottish, 5ft 6inches in height, of a thin build and has short grey/white hair.

He was last seen wearing a black north face puffer jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

Police say Ian is known to Glasgow City Centre, in particularly the Central Station area. Officers have been working with city centre police, however, there has been no trace of Ian.

Sergeant Jibran Yousaf, Maryhill Police Station, said: “Ian tends to frequent Glasgow City Centre, especially the streets around Central Station. We have been liaising with our colleagues in the city centre and have been reviewing CCTV footage there and locally but so far there has been no trace of him.

“We don’t believe he has money or a mobile phone with him. That and the fact he has not been seen for five days is concerning for us.

“If you have seen Ian, or have any information that may help trace him, then please call police.

Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 3355 of Tuesday, 7 January 2025 when calling.
