Police find ‘stolen car’ smashed into lamp post after overnight crash on Canvey Island

A suspected stolen vehicle was found by police officers smashed into a lamppost on Canvey Island. Essex Police are investigating after a single-vehicle collision on Somnes Avenue was reported at 5am on Saturday (January 5).

Officers arrived at the scene and found a car had collided with a lamp post and had been badly damaged. There were no occupants in the vehicle.

Enquiries are ongoing to determine who was in the car at the time of the collision. Essex Police said they have identified the vehicle as having been stolen from an address on the island and are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.
