Police have issued an update after a firework was thrown inside a house. Emergency services were first called to Garswood Street in Dingle at around 8.10pm on Wednesday, January 8.

It followed a report a firework had been fired towards the door of a house. A few hours later at around 11.25pm, Merseyside Police received another call which said a window at the same property had been smashed and a firework was thrown through.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters arrived at the scene at around 11.30pm and found the front room to the ground floor ablaze. People were inside the property at the time, however police said there were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the fire service said one person was rescued from the house and another two people had got out before crews arrived. North West Ambulance Service also attended the scene and provided precautionary checks.

The fire service added one person was taken to hospital for further treatment. Pictures taken at the scene show damage was caused to the front door and a window of the property.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and criminal damage yesterday. However, in an update today, Friday, January 10, Merseyside Police said the 16-year-old boy has since been bailed with conditions.

Detective Inspector Steve Street said at the time: “Clearly this could have had very serious consequences. Thankfully nobody was injured but the occupiers have been left shocked and upset. At this stage the motive is not clear and we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry.

“We have made an arrest but would appeal for anyone who was in the area of Garswood Street last night who heard or saw anything suspicious or believes they captured something on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera, to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
