Police scour Aberdeen water and riverbanks in frantic bid to find missing sisters

A major search operation is underway in Aberdeen to trace two sisters missing since Tuesday.

Police were seen scouring the water and the banks of the River Dee this morning, close to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge. A helicopter was also spotted circling the river in a bid to find Eliza and Henrietta Huszti.

The 32-year-old sisters were reported missing from their home and were last spotted on CCTV in the Market Street area at around 2.12am on Tuesday, January 7.

The pair are believed to have crossed Victoria Bridge into Torry and turned right onto a footpath next to the River Dee heading in the direction of Aberdeen Boat Club. A police statement issued on Thursday announced that enquiries were ongoing, with specialist resources and search advisors involved in tracing the sisters.

Earlier today, a heavy police presence was spotted close to the river, the Daily Record reports. Two boats were on the water while a land search was carried out along the banks. Police divers have also been sighted in the water.

Eliza and Henrietta are both described as white and of slim build with long, brown hair. Chief Inspector Darren Bruce from Police Scotland said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta and searches are being carried out in and around the area where they were last seen.

“Local officers, led by specialist search advisors are being assisted by resources including police dogs and our marine unit. The Torry side of Victoria Bridge where they were last seen has many commercial and industrial units.
