Two vehicles have been seized by police after driving dangerously in poor weather conditions. Gwent Police seized the vehicles in Spytty, Newport on the evening of Saturday, January 4.
With snow falling across Wales this weekend, conditions on the roads in Newport were poor. Two vehicles that were seen “drifting around dangerously” were seized by officers from Gwent Police’s Operations and Support team. Get the latest Welsh news headlines delivered free to your inbox every day
The cars were seized under the section 59 Police Reform Act that gives police the power to deal with anti-social use of motor vehicles. This includes, causing, or likely to cause, alarm, distress, or annoyance to members of the public or driving or riding in a careless and inconsiderate or anti-social manner.
First under the act drivers are issued a warning that lasts for 12 months. If the driver is handled again by the police for antisocial use of a motor vehicle, the vehicle will be seized.
Gwent Police posted on X stating: “Dangerous, careless or anti-social driving will not be tolerated in Gwent.”
