Popular Glasgow restaurant Shish Mahal is inviting people to show off their own hot sauces this summer.
The west end eatery, which is famous for inventing the tikka-masala and, it claims, the original hot sauce, promises to feature some of the best vendors from the UK showcasing their sauces.
Dubbed, The Sauce Off, the festival will feature a friendly sauce competition for vendors to showcase their sauces as well as tasting sessions.
There will also be workshops and a family friendly celebration with food and music. More information about how people can take part and get tickets for the event will be announced in spring time.
“Hot sauce is more than a condiment—it’s a story of passion, innovation, and a love of spice,” said Kalsoom Akhtar, COO and PR & Marketing Director of Shish Mahal. “Since inventing it in 1964, we’ve been proud to inspire generations of spice lovers, and the SauceOff Festival is our way of bringing this incredible community together to highlight the artistry behind every bottle.
“Our journey with hot sauce began over 60 years ago, and today, it’s a global phenomenon.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone—whether you’re a seasoned sauce creator or just discovering your love of heat—to join us in celebrating the art of spice at its finest.”
Shish Mahal is a much loved Glasgow restaurant, with customers even getting tattoos to celebrate it’s 60th anniversary last June. Youtuber Gary Eats also gave the restaurant his seal of approval.
