A Port Glasgow care worker has been struck off after verbally abusing two residents in her care.
Elizabeth Johnston hurled abuse at two residents while working as a care assistant at Marchmont House Care Home between March 9, 2024, and March 10, 2024, according to a report from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
During the first incident, when resident AA told her they were cold she said: “you can sit there in the cold and be freezing,” or words to that effect.
She also said to the resident: “I’m going to f***ing batter you,” or words to that effect.
Then, while caring for resident BB, she said: “Get to your f***ing bed,” or words to that effect when he came out of his room.
She then began an argument with the resident because he came out of his room and repeatedly pressed the nurse call buzzer before calling him a “fat p****,” or words to that effect.
The report said Johnston “made derogatory, degrading and unprofessional comments” towards the residents.
It added: “Social service workers must not abuse, neglect or harm people who use services, carers, or colleagues. They must not behave, while in or outside of work, in a way which would bring their suitability to work in social services into question.
“The behaviour is serious because it can only be described as deliberate, cruel and uncaring.”
The report also stated that Johnston has shown “no insight, regret or apology” demonstrated a “pattern of behaviour” and that one supported person had become “agitated” due to what she said to them.
However, it was noted that Johnston had a “positive history” working in the care sector for around seven years before the incident.
Johnston’s notice came into effect on December 27.
