Proposal for 60m of double yellow lines at busy Kent town junction

Council chiefs are consulting on a proposal to paint 60m of double yellow lines in a town in Kent. The Traffic Regulation Order has been made by Kent County Council.

The public has been invited to give its views on the restriction proposed for Maidstone. and the 24-day consultation ends on Monday, January 13 at noon.

The yellow lines would be 30m either side of a section of Castle Road in Allington. The reasons for the changes are two-fold, for the safety of people, whether in or out of vehicles, using the road and preventing accidents. And also, simply making it easier to use the road, for any type of traffic including pedestrians, said the council.

The council has not yet made a decision on whether or not to put in the double yellows and once it has consultation comments back, it will review the scheme and decide whether to go ahead.

Double yellow lines mean you can not wait or park there. However, in some cases, you might be able to quickly stop to load or unload heavy goods.

And if you are a Blue Badge carrier, you can usually park on double yellows for up to three hours – but you must clearly display your badge.

The AA warns though, “these exceptions won’t always apply though, so check for local signs or kerb edge markings. If there are pairs of short yellow lines over the kerb edge you’re not allowed to load at any time. Even with a Blue Badge you musn’t park anywhere where there are loading restrictions.”

Where exactly the double yellow lines are proposed

  • On the north-western side of the railway bridge, on both sides of the road, for 30m in a north-easterly direction

  • On the south-eastern side of the railway bridge, on both sides of the road, for 30m in a south-westerly direction.

How can I give my view?

You can support or object to the proposal for parts of Castle Road by filling in a form, which you’ll find by visiting this link.

The council asks that whether you object or support the proposal, you must explain what you believe to be the impact on traffic in the local area. If you don’t, your response won’t be valid.
