A road in Devon remains closed after a water main burst last week. Water gushed from the pipe in Ilsham Road, Torquay on Thursday, January 9, initially flooding the road completely.
South West Water (SWW) engineers were at the scene on Thursday to fix the pipe. A spokesperson for the company has confirmed the leak was fixed last week but the road remains closed.
Crews are working to repair and reinstate the road, which photos show was partly dug up during the water main repair works. The road is expected to back to full use by the middle of the week, SWW said.

A spokesperson for the company told DevonLive: “We fixed the burst at around 8.545pm on Thursday last week. The teams are now working to reinstate the road which is planned to be finished by the middle of this week.”
Witnesses told DevonLive Ilsham Road was “totally blocked” by water last week near Meadfoot beach.
Photos and video captured at the time showed the extend of water leaking from the burst, with SWW diggers and repair crews at the site trying to fix the issue. Some properties lost water as a result, SWW said at the time, and a tanker was being used to resupply the affected properties.

Now, images captured over the weekend show the flooding has subsided, but the road has been dug up and access is blocked off. The road repairs are expected to be completed by the middle of the week, South West Water has said.
