A road has reopened after a lorry overturned blocking a major route for several hours.
Police, paramedics and fire crews rushed to Greystones roundabout, at Grangetown, following a crash on Wednesday. A lorry overturned blocking a section of road and a casualty was given first aid by firefighters.
Cleveland Police told drivers to avoid the area and confirmed the southbound carriageway would remain shut until the lorry was recovered. A force spokesperson said: “At 9.15am on Wednesday, January 15 police were called to the Greystones roundabout on the A1053 following reports of an overturned lorry. There are no reports of any injuries. A road closure is in place on the roundabout to Lackenby while the lorry is recovered.”
Cleveland Fire Brigade and paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) also attended the incident. Fire crews performed first aid on the casualty and made the scene safe.
A spokesperson confirmed: “Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on January 15, 2025 at 9.13am to an incident on Greystones Road, Grangetown. Two fire engines were in attendance from Grangetown.
“This was an overturned lorry on the roundabout. One casualty who crew gave first aid to at the side of the road before being handed over to North East Ambulance Service. The crew also ensured the vehicle was made safe. We got the stop at 10.29am.”
Pictures from the scene show a large cordon in place and a section of the roundabout blocked off with cones. A fleet of 999 vehicles including the NEAS were spotted at the scene.
An ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called to a road traffic incident this morning (15 January) at 9:18am on Greystones roundabout in Grangetown. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one clinical team leader and we assessed and discharged on scene.”
The road reopened at approximately 4pm on Wednesday.
