Royal Marine veterans honoured the memory of an old colleague at the weekend by going for a dip in the water off Plymouth Hoe to raise money for charity.
Ex-Royal Marine Commando Tim Crossin, who sadly passed away just before Christmas, had been determined to ‘sea dip’ for charity to raise awareness of the Royal Marines Charity, Rock 2 Recovery, Lymphoma Action, who supported him after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Instead, over 100 of his former colleagues donned their green berets and rallied to the ‘Cold Dip Commando Tim-spiration’ call. Dipper-in-chief on Saturday (Jan 4) was Gary Hunter, who led the charge into the sea. Gary said: “The weather was fantastic!
“The event was to honour all those who have suffered with cancer, or knew someone with cancer, and to promote the charities Tim supported when he was alive. It was fantastic to see so many turn out to support us.”
Other ‘cold water commando dips’ are going on around the country this month, and since the swim started in Dorset on January 1st, over £6,000 has been raised.
