A Scottish man who was serving as a medic in Ukraine has been killed, his family confirmed. Jordan Maclachlan volunteered with the Ukrainian army after the country was invaded in 2022 by Russia.
The 26-year-old from Ardnamurchan in the Scottish Highlands died on Friday while serving on the frontline. His family released a statement to the BBC, saying: “Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others.
“We are waiting for further information from the Foreign Office as information is very limited. Jordan was a fun-loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Brits have been advised to avoid travel to certain parts of Ukraine. They also advised against essential travel to other areas of the war torn country. Since Russia invaded Ukraine three years ago, several Scots have made the perilous trip to help out Ukrainians.
Adam Ennis, 35, was hailed as a hero six months after he left his garage in Biggar, South Lanarkshire, to help with the war effort. He joined the international legion, using the basic training he gained from cadet scheme at school.
Another volunteer, tragically lost his life working as a medic in Ukraine in December 2022. Jonathan Shenkin, 45, from Glasgow, left his homeland to join the war. His family said at the time that he “made the ultimate sacrifice” by standing up to Vladimir Putin’s troops. They said the dad “died as a hero in an act of bravery as a paramedic”.
