‘Screams heard’ from river around the time missing sisters were last seen in Aberdeen

The famly of two sisters missing for almost a week have renewed their appeals to the public for help. Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, 32, were last seen on CCTV in Aberdeen but despite a huge search, so far, no trace of either woman has been found.

It has now been reported that locals living close to the area where the final confirmed sighting of the pair was made, revealed that they heard screams around the time the siblings vanished. The sisters, who are two of triplets, disappeared early on Tuesday, January 7.

On Monday, their family released a new statement through Police Scotland. It stated: “This has been a very worrying and upsetting time for our family. We are really worried about Eliza and Henrietta and all we want is for them to be found.”

The statement went on: “If you think you might have any information which could help the police with finding Eliza and Henrietta then please pass this on as quickly as you can. We appreciate all the support our family has been given over the past few days and we would like our privacy to be respected at this time.”

Eliza, a hotel cleaner and Henrietta, who works in a Costa Coffee shop, were last seen on Market Street at Victoria Bridge, at about 2.12am. They crossed the bridge and turned right onto a footpath next to the River Dee heading in the Torry area of the city heading in the direction of the Aberdeen Boat Club.

The sisters are originally from Hungary but moved to Scotland around seven years ago. And the Scottish Sun reported that people living near the river had heard a disturbance on the night they vanished.

One resident said: “It was pretty scary stuff. The path around the river is pitch black and no one in their right mind would go near it after dark.”

She added: “A woman screaming out in the darkness is going to raise some red flags. It’s a sound that no one would ever forget, or be able to ignore. It makes sense that it’s linked to the missing sisters.”

The local went on: “Was one of them screaming out for help because they’d fallen in? And did her sister go to help and then get into trouble herself. We might never know what happened to them. It is such a tragedy.”

Specialist resources, including the police helicopter, dog branch and the marine unit, are involved in the search. The River Dee remains the main area of attention for searchers who are carrying extensive examination of both the water and the banks between Wellington Bridge and the South Harbour.

Police urge anyone with information to get in touch

CCTV footage from the area where Eliza and Henrietta were last seen is also being examined with door-to-door enquiries being carried out, as well as speaking to local businesses.

Chief Inspector Darren Bruce, who is leading the investigation, said: “Eliza and Henrietta’s family remain extremely worried about them and we are in regular contact with them as our searches continue.

“We know that people across Aberdeen are also seriously concerned for the two missing sisters and I would again urge anyone with information which could help to get in touch with us.”

He added: “Extensive efforts remain ongoing in the area, with specialist officers continuing to search on the banks of the river, whilst door-to-door enquiries are also continuing at homes and businesses in the surrounding area. The River Dee remains the focus of our searches as there is no evidence of the sisters leaving the immediate area.”

Chf. Insp. Bruce continued: “I would again ask, if you were in the area in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, please think back, did you notice anyone matching their description? Even if it doesn’t seem significant, please pass any information on. Any piece of information could prove crucial.

“We have been working to gather all the available CCTV footage from the area but if anyone has private CCTV or dash-cam footage from around that time please get in touch.”

The third triplet, Edit and their brother, Joszef, have both said that the two siblings appeared fine when they last spoke and they cannot understand their sudden disappearance.
