Section of Nottingham’s tram network to be closed for essential repairs

Tram passengers have been warned to allow extra time for their journeys as a section of the network will close for essential maintenance. No trams will operate between Wilkinson Street and The Forest on Sunday, January 26, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has announced, to allow for the repair work to take place.

The operator said a replacement bus will be available to take passengers along the affected route, running every 10 minutes. Besides Wilkinson Street and The Forest, the bus will also pick passengers up at bus stops located on Radford Road, close to the Radford Road and Hyson Green tram stops.

Tram users are advised to check affected routes before travelling, and to allow for extra time when planning their journey, with regular tram services set to resume at 6am on Monday, January 27. Trevor Stocker, head of operations at NET, said: “We’re always committed to ensuring our tracks remain in optimum condition to ensure the smooth operation of our network, as well as optimal safety and reliability for our tram users.

“The upcoming track works are a key part of that. Some of our tram tracks have been in operation for over twenty years, which can naturally mean wear and tear can occur.

“As such, essential works such as the ones taking place on 26th January, are vital for the ongoing maintenance of the network. As with all our maintenance work, we always aim to keep disruption levels to a minimum, but we understand the inconvenience these works will cause tram users, and thank them for their patience. However, we’re pleased to be able to offer a replacement bus service, and we’re advising all tram users to allow additional time for their journeys.”

The company recently announced a new hike in ticket prices, which came into force on Monday, January 6. The operator said the increase is “in line with inflation and the growing cost demands of running the network”.

An adult day ticket has gone up from £5.40 to £5.50 and an adult single ticket from £3.30 to £3.40. The last price rise on the network came in June 2024, when NET announced the second price hike in six months.
