Shildon shop fire tackled by County Durham firefighters

A fire which broke out in a shop in Shildon is being tackled by County Durham firefighters.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) responded to the blaze on Monday morning, and have now been on the scene for hours.

At 10.12am, CDDFRS received a report of a fire on Church Street, with firefighters being immediately deployed. A total of five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform are in attendance at the scene.

Firefighters are currently still at the scene with efforts focused on a single storey shop, and are asking the public to avoid the area if possible.

A statement from County Durham Fire and Rescue Service reads as follows: “We’re currently in attendance at a fire on Church Street in Shildon and ask that you please avoid the area. At 10.12am this morning we received a report of a shop fire.

“We immediately deployed firefighters to the area, with a total of five fire engines and one aerial ladder platform in attendance. We remain at the scene at this time. Thanks for your support and co-operation.”
