This CCTV image shows a knifeman clutching the weapon he thrust into the head of a man he tried to kill in Nottingham city centre. Connor Page, 27, of Derby, used it 12 separate times on his Nottingham victim, Skye Severn, following an argument outside the I-Club in Wilford Street.
A two-day trial, at Nottingham Crown Court, saw footage of the frenzied attack on the 25-year-old victim, of Bilborough, who had to have the tip of the blade surgically removed from his head after being assaulted by the defendant.
On Monday January 13, a jury took just two-and-a-half hours to convict Page, of Alvaston, of attempted murder. He always admitted to being the man who used the weapon but told the jury he did not intend to end Mr Severn’s life with it.
The knifeman, of Metcalfe Close, has been remanded into custody, and is due to reappear in court for a further hearing later this week, at which point a date for him to be sentenced will be confirmed. Detective Constable Ruth Towle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The strength of the case brought against Page left him with no option but to admit he’d carried out this attack with the intention of causing the other man serious harm. He always flatly denied he’d been trying to kill his victim however, so we’re really pleased to see the jury agree with our view that he was in fact trying to do exactly that.
“This was a savage and frenzied attack that will have been incredibly distressing for anyone who witnessed it – not to mention the victim, who required surgery but was thankfully not more seriously injured. While he may have been found guilty, Connor Page should count himself very lucky that he wasn’t in court facing a different charge of murder.”
The trial heard how the attempted murder happened outside the club – formerly the Irish Social Club, in the early hours of June 23, last year. Phone footage played to the jury showed a large crowd which all witnessed the attack with one woman heard screaming “he’s stabbing him, he’s stabbing him”.
