‘Shocking ordeal’ for driver and passengers as bus bricked

A bus driver and passengers endured a “shocking ordeal” when the vehicle was bricked in the Waterside area of Derry at the weekend, the PSNI has said.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses or anyone with dash cam or other footage to come forward.

The incident happened in the Trench Road area of the city at around 9.30pm on Saturday, a PSNI spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police in Derry/Londonderry are appealing for witnesses and information after a bus was damaged on Saturday evening, 11th January.

“It was reported at approximately 9.30pm, as the bus was travelling on Trench Road in the Waterside, a number of young people threw what looked like bricks at the vehicle.

“Significant damage was caused to the vehicle’s front and side windows. While no injuries were reported, this was a shocking ordeal for the driver and any passenger/s.”

The police spokesperson added: “Police appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or who has video, dash-cam or CCTV footage of the area during this time to call 101 and quote reference number 1522 11/01/25 or make a report online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport A report can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
