Teen in serious condition as police hunt Barrhead ‘hit-and-run’ driver

A teenager remains in a “serious” condition after he was hit by a car in Barrhead on New Year’s Day.

Emergency services received reports of a 15-year-old boy on an electric bike having been found injured on Aurs Drive. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Police say extensive enquiries have been carried out and it has been established he was struck by a car which failed to stop.

The car is believed to be a silver Vauxhall Astra, and investigations are ongoing to try and trace it.

Sergeant Ally Wright said: “We have now confirmed that a car was involved in this incident and our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have seen the incident, the car or have information which could assist us to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cam footage or private CCTV to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 4085 of 1 January, 2025.
