A man who sexually assaulted a woman in her 60s while she was sleeping has been jailed. James Clarke was 19 when attacked the woman at a property in Loughborough, leaving his victim “shocked and confused”.
The victim “pulled away”, before Clarke, of Station Street, Wigston, sexually assaulted her again. Officers from Leicestershire Police said the victim told Clarke to stop, and he complied.
At Leicester Crown Court on Friday (January 10), Clarke, now 23, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for the offence, which took place in October 2020. He had earlier been found guilty of two counts of sexual assault following a trial in November 2024.

Sergeant Isabel Norton, who led the investigation, said today (Monday, January 13): “It is hard to imagine the courage it must have taken for the victim to pick up the phone and report this to us, knowing the investigation and inquiries which would follow.”
She added: “I have remained in contact with the victim throughout. She has shown patience, support and true bravery to help us reach this point at court and I cannot thank her enough for this.”
The force said it encouraged anyone who had been a victim of sexual assault to come forward and report it to police. Support and advice is available through Leicestershire Police’s website.
