Trafalgar Square and major central London roads closed for five days

Trafalgar Square and other major central London roads are closed for five days. The area will be “extremely busy” with road users being told to “avoid if possible” by Westminster City Council.

The closures will run from today (Monday, January 6) until Friday. Works will take place from 8am until 10pm each day, although the road closures will be in place for the entire period.

Westminster City Council will be undertaking work to resurface the carriageway. All work is “weather permitting” and January 11 is being kept as a backup date to complete resurfacing and Transport for London civil works.

Road users have been warned that the area will be “extremely busy” while the closures are in place. They are being advised to “avoid it if possible” by Westminster City Council.

Works will see Trafalgar Square and various surrounding roads closed. This will be done in four stages.

The phases include:

Monday 6 Jan – Northumberland Ave, Whitehall

Tuesday 7 Jan – The Mall Cockspur St. (Westbound)

Wednesday 8 Jan – Cockspur St. (Eastbound) Charing Cross Road

Thursday 9 Jan – Strand, Northumberland Avenue

Friday 10 Jan (TfL only) – Strand Northumberland Avenue
