Tragedy as woman, 29, dies and child, 2, suffers life-threatening injuries after M180 crash

A 29-year-old woman has tragically died and a child has suffered life-threatening injuries following a collision in the Barnetby area on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the M180 at Barnetby between junctions five and four at around 11.15am, with reports that a black Mitsubishi Outlander travelling west had left the road and collided with a tree.

A 29-year-old woman and a two-year-old boy were both taken to hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the woman has since died as a result of her injuries during the early hours of Monday morning.

The child remains in a critical condition at this time.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of being over the prescribed limit, being unfit through drink and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

Humberside Police are appealing for information and are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or who has dashcam footage, to contact them.

A force spokesperson said: “We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the collision, who has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 158 of 5 January.”
