A trial date has been set for Thomas Dures after he was charged with the murder of Matthew Daulby. The 21-year-old was arrested in Greece and extradited to the UK on Tuesday, January 7.

He was charged that night before appearing at Preston Magistrates’ Court the following day. Appearing at Preston Crown Court via video link from Wormwood Scrubs prison, Dures of Whalley Drive, Aughton, spoke only to confirm his name and say he understood proceedings.

The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, set a date for Dures to stand trial. The defendant was remanded in custody and will next appear at Preston Crown Court on February 28, 2025, for a plea hearing. A trial has been scheduled for July 7, 2025, Lancs Live reports.

Matthew, 19, was stabbed in the chest and hit with a rock during a mass brawl on Railway Road, Ormskirk, in the early hours of the morning on 29 July, 2023. Henry Houghton was found guilty of murder following a trial in March last year. He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years.

A post mortem examination found that Matthew’s cause of death was a stab wound.
