A East Lothian son has paid tribute to his loving dad who would do all he could to help others.
Samuel McEwan, also known as Sam, passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with stomach cancer.
His son Chris said his dad would do everything he could to help those in need and remembered fondly his love for music and golf.
Sam lived all his life in Prestonpans and grew up with his brother Jamie and mother Mary as well as father Sammy.
He was an adoring dad to Cameron, 27, Alistair, 34, Stuart, 36, Fraser, 39, and Chris as well as a caring grandfather to both his grandkids, Samantha, 21, and Callum, 20.

Tragically Sam’s little brother, Jamie, who he was extremely close to, travelled all the way from Australia to be by his brother’s side but unfortunately missed his death on January 2 2025 by three hours.
“He was a musician at weekends playing in bands gigging all over Scotland,” Chris said. “He kept playing right up until the beginning of December last year despite having cancer.
“He was also the local window cleaner who serviced a lot of houses and shops in the Prestonpans, Musselburgh and Portseton/Cockenzie area.
Sam was dedicated to his family.
“Later in semi-retirement he delivered parcels in the same area so he was well known by a lot of people. He had a real passion for helping people, he would help anyone who needed it.
“I’ll always remember our shared love of cars, sports and music. My dad played in Sneaky Pete’s for the past 30 years and more recently alongside his son Cameron.”
Sam was also a keen golfer and was captain of the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club from 2000 to 2005 as well as a director on their board from 1991 to 2005.
Sam was a well respected member of his community.
Sadly he was given the horrific terminal stomach cancer diagnosis after he began to experience difficult when eating.
“It was a very aggressive form of cancer which comes with a low survival rate,” Chris added. “He lasted a year before it fully consumed him.

“He was really close with his brother Jamie, the two of them spoke every week despite Jamie moving to Australia years ago. Jamie had travelled across to be by his side but sadly missed him by a few hours.
“The loss of my dad has been devastating. He was a family man and always there for us.
“He just wanted to help everyone.”
Sam’s funeral will be held at Seafield Crematorium on Thursday January 16 at 11am.
