An Essex Turtle Bay restaurant will be shut until the spring while a major refurbishment takes place to “completely transform” the premises. The Caribbean-inspired restaurant and beach bar is famous for its spicy meals and colourful cocktails.
Turtle Bay in Chelmsford is based in High Chelmer Shopping Centre and is a frequent stop for people to enjoy bottomless brunches on cocktails and other drinks, as well as meals inspired by jerk recipes and Caribbean cuisine.
The premises is in the process of being stripped bare, with workers spotted removing items inside the restaurant. Turtle Bay have confirmed the closure will remain in place until the spring of 2025, with no firm opening date listed. However, the website has stated “early February” will be the start for any new recruits this month.

A spokesman said: “This Spring, step into a reimagined Turtle Bay that’s been completely transformed. With bold new flavours, a fresh look, and an even more vibrant atmosphere, our Caribbean kitchen and beach bar will offer a whole new way to experience island life from morning ’til night. Everyone invited.
“Our hosts will be there to bring the magic of the Caribbean to every moment, serving up warmth and energy that makes everyone feel at home. This is Turtle Bay as you’ve never seen it before. Stick around – we can’t wait to take you on this journey with us.”
The chain has been posting job adverts for the restaurant for both full and part-time positions. They said the restaurant will have a “bold new look” and “irresistible vibe” which brings a “refreshed and carefree” experience.
Additionally, Turtle Bay has applied to Chelmsford City Council to vary their licence agreement to allow for New Year’s Eve non-standard timings and for the layout of their premises to be changed, with the application taking effect from January 6.
