Two arrested after woman found dead at Leicester house

A woman has been found dead in a house in Leicester. Two people have been arrested following the discovery, in St Austell Road, Thurnby Lodge, yesterday (Sunday, January 12).

East Midlands Ambulance Service called Leicestershire Police to the scene at 3.40am. The woman, aged 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said today (Monday, January 13) that an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. A post-mortem examination is due to take place today.

Scene preservation remains in place at the address. Police said the woman’s family were being supported.

A 29-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman remain in police custody. Police have not said what the pair have been arrested on suspicion of. A force spokesperson said that that information was “not something [it was] able to confirm at this time”.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish, who is leading the investigation, said: “A woman was sadly found dead inside an address in St Austell Road in the early hours of yesterday morning. It is currently unclear exactly how the woman died but officers are working to understand exactly what has occurred and determine if someone was responsible for her death.”

Officers are carrying out inquiries in the area and speaking to local residents, the force added. It said that due to “prior police contact”, it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Such referrals are standard procedure when officers have had involvement with a related party prior to a death.

Anyone with information is asked to call Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting reference number 25*020928. Alternatively, report information on the force’s website.
