Two Kent men who posted ‘drifting’ videos on YouTube sentenced

Two Kent men have been prosecuted after attending a car meet in Berkshire. Police say the men “brazenly” posted videos of themselves committing several driving offences on YouTube.

Jake Crouch, 28, from Tunbridge Wells, and Alexander Mangion-Mackenzie, 36, from Gravesend, were fined and given points on their driving licences. Surrey Police said video uploaded to YouTube “clearly” showed the men committing a number of offences which included; driving without due care and attention, driving whilst not in position to have proper control and driving a vehicle with no front registration plate.

In the video, Crouch and Mangion-Mackenzie were recorded ‘drifting’ in their cars at the car meet at Poyle Road and Colndale Road in Slough overnight between May 25 and 26 2024.

At Guildford Magistrates’ Court on January 3 Crouch was given five points on his licence, a £740 fine and ordered to pay £110 in court costs and a £296 victim surcharge. While Mangion-Mackenzie was also given five points on his licence, fined £550, and ordered to pay £110 in costs and £296 in victim surcharge.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “The majority of car meets in Surrey do not cause any issues and pass off without a hitch, but when driving offences are committed and the safety of other road users is threatened, we will act robustly to bring these cases to court.”
