Updates as Cumali Turhan’s body found at landfill after man vanished from Essex pub

A man’s body has been discovered in a landfill after two months of searching. Cumali Turhan, 45, was first named as a missing man back in November. He was last seen in The Globe Pub on Rainsford Road in Chelmsford on the night of November 19, and police forensic teams began their investigation there, as well as on Duke Street as police information suggested the missing man had gone to Barrista. However, while police were still looking for Cumali, one man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Days later, 44-year-old Ciprian Ilie was charged with assisting an offender in murder and preventing lawful and decent burial of a dead body. Ilie appeared in Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on November 23.

A second suspect, 38-year-old Ceyhan Dinler from Chelmsford was identified by police. Images at Stansted Airport show that Dinler flew to Turkey on the day that Cumali Turhan was last in contact with anyone.

After an extensive search, specialist forensic teams located the body of the missing man in a landfill. The search had spanned a wide area of Essex, and concluded after 45 days.
