A number of children’s parks in Bridgwater have been vandalised over the last week, leaving youngsters unable to use play equipment unusable. Fires were started deliberately, causing serious damage to play equipment and safety surfaces.
Bridgwater Town Council said the Northgate Yard, Victoria Park, and Gloucester Road play areas have been targeted by vandals. The council is urging people to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
Scott Mason, director of amenities at Bridgwater Town Council, said: “Our Open Spaces team have assessed the damage and will undertake necessary repairs and replacements. However, the actions of a few individuals have once again ruined it for everyone.
“Vandalism not only damages our facilities but also diverts valuable resources that could be used to enhance our community.”
“We are committed to restoring these play areas as quickly as possible. We ask for the community’s support in safeguarding our parks and reporting any anti-social behaviour. We are also working with Somerset Council’s CCTV Team to review footage for potential perpetrators.”
Councillor Tim Mander, Chair of the Amenities Committee, added: “We are appalled by these senseless acts of vandalism. Our Open Spaces team works tirelessly to maintain and improve these areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. We will do everything in our power to restore these areas and support our team in their ongoing efforts.”
