A vicious brute attacked his wife with an axe – then immediately called 999 to say what he had done.
Daniel Holden of Station Road, Keswick was jailed yesterday (Monday, January 6), for section 18 grievous bodily Harm with intent at Carlisle Crown Court. The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing in November.
On July 5 2024, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) contacted Cumbria Police after Holden called to report he had hit his partner over the head with a pick axe. In the call, Holden stated he had ‘attacked his wife’ and that she was ‘badly injured’ and ‘heavily bleeding’.
He confirmed he had hit his partner when officers arrived, hitting her three times to the head and that the weapon was in the bedroom. Holden was then arrested where he continued to make comments that he had hit his partner three times and his intent.
The victim was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with a bleed on the brain. Detective Inspector Suzanne Redikin was the senior investigating officer and spoke following the hearing. DI Redikin said: “Holden made significant comments following his arrest on the attack.
“Holden knew the axe would cause potentially fatal damage to the victim when he hit her three times. The use of any weapon has the potential to end in tragedy, and the police and courts take such an act extremely seriously.”
