Violent Cork city feud ‘put to bed’ as key figures agree fight was ‘over stupid things’

Warring factions have met to make peace and put issues ‘to bed’ in the latest development of a long-standing feud on Cork’s northside.

It’s understood that key figures from both clans have agreed that an escalation in violence “never should have happened” and that it was “all down to young fellas, silly things stupid things.”

In a video seen by CorkBeo, men from both sides of the feud can be heard at a meeting to reconcile and agree peace. One man can be heard saying: “We need to get on with our lives, it’s 2025, it’s all put to bed, both sides, stay away from each other.” The men can then be seen shaking hands on camera.

It comes after further escalation of violence and a number of garda operations. Just yesterday, Gardai – backed by Armed Support Unit – targeted groups involved in recent violent incidents, arrested five men, and seized a number of weapons during a major operation.

Earlier this week, shoppers and staff were shocked after witnessing a brutal attack at a supermarket where a group of hooded men entered the store with weapons, starting an altercation which eventually led out into the car park.

Cork TD Ken O’Flynn who has been calling for an end to ongoing fighting and violence on the northside said this morning he is “heartened by the reconciliation efforts that have emerged” but said it is “essential to approach this situation with caution.”

The newly elected Independent Ireland TD said: “the steps taken towards dialogue and understanding are commendable and highlight the unwavering strength and resilience of our community members and the Gardaí, who have tirelessly worked to advocate for peace. The resolution of this conflict stands as a testament to what can be achieved when we unite for a common purpose.”

He added that the ongoing violence and retaliation seen in recent weeks and months has been a very serious situation that has “affected many families and disrupted the safety and unity that our community holds dear.”

“As we celebrate these efforts, it is imperative that we learn from the past. There must be zero tolerance for any behavior that undermines the well-being of our community going forward.”

He echoed continued calls for more community policing and services to develop “an environment of respect and understanding, ensuring that we never again find ourselves in a situation where progress is tenuous at best.”
