Wandsworth Prison officer filmed having sex with inmate jailed | UK | News

Linda De Sousa Abreu has been sentenced after she was charged with misconduct in public office on July 29.

The former prison officer was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday, January 6.

De Sousa Abreu was jailed for 15 months for misconduct after having sex with an inmate in a cell at HMP Wandsworth.

De Sousa Abreu pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office at Isleworth Crown Court in July following the circulation of a video on social media that showed a prison officer having sex with an inmate in a cell at HMP Wandsworth, in south London.

In June, the video that captured the female prison officer engaging in illicit activities with the inmate went viral after it was filmed by his cellmate, leading to a police investigation.

The filmer, who appears to be nonchalantly smoking, boasts: “Guys we’ve made history, this is what I’m telling you.”

After admitting to misconduct in a public office in July, De Sousa Abreu, a Portuguese passport holder, received conditional bail.

Tetteh Turkson from the Crown Prosecution Service condemned the episode as a severe violation of the public’s trust, describing De Sousa Abreu’s behaviour as eager and misguided.

Turkson stressed that the CPS has zero tolerance for any prison staff acting in such an inappropriate manner and stands ready to prosecute those who exploit their authority.

He said: “After working closely with the Metropolitan Police to build the strongest possible case, De Sousa had no option but accept she was guilty. She will now rightly face the consequences of her actions.”
