Warning to drivers as A42 near East Midlands Airport set to close

Drivers have been warned of potential delays amid closures along Leicestershire’s A42. The closures will impact roads linking a roundabout near East Midlands Airport (EMA) with the M1 southbound.

The warning has been issued ahead of the closure which comes into effect on Monday (January 6) and impacts the southbound carriageway of the A42. The closure is in place from the Finger Farm Island at Castle Donington to the southbound M1 and on the main section of the A42 heading to Ashby, which will be shut to junction 14 of the A42 near Tonge.

The closure, put in place by National Highways is to allow “electrical works” to be carried out in the area. National Highways has said diversions will be in place and signposted during the closure of the road.

The closures will be in place from Monday, January 6, until Saturday, January 25, from 8pm each night until 6am the following mornings. There will also be a single lane closure at the same time on the M1 southbound between junctions 23 and 24a, which is a two-mile stretch of the motorway near EMA.
