Well known Edinburgh Royal Mile pub closes as tenants give update on future

The Kilderkin pub on the Royal Mile has closed as it awaits a new management takeover.

Current tenants Kev and Claire took to Instagram to notify Edinburgh punters of the change.

They explained the pub was scheduled to close in February for a refurbishment before reopening in March 2025.

Heineken has found a new tenant to take on the business using the JAT model – a model described as being a ‘low-risk, low-cost option.’

But Kev and Claire added the trade in their section of the High Street is not profitable at the beginning of the year and this has led to them closing their doors earlier than planned on Monday January 6.

“Today we packed up the pub, Heineken have found a new tenant to take over the venue on their JAT model,” they said. “We wish them all the best.

“The pub was due to close in February for a refurb to open in March, trade in January down our part of the High Street is just not profitable at this time of the year so for that reason we chose to close a little earlier than planned.

“I want to thank each and every one of you that has supported a small business. Our brilliant local breweries but most importantly the staff. The ones at the start who showed us the ropes of the pub, the later lot who achieved some quite remarkable reviews, Helen for coming and managing the ever changing team with grace and dedication, what can we say about the chefs!
