A West Lothian carer pulled an elderly woman to the side of her bed using her legs and pushed her to the bathroom.
Ayobami Hassan was brought before the Scottish Social Services Council last month following concerning reports of being rough with the resident on multiple occasions at the HC-One care home in Bathgate.
Hassan, on October 27, 2023, pulled covers off the resident, pulled her to the side of the bed by her legs before pulling her by the arms and pushing her to the bathroom by her clothing and “roughly” removing her clothing.

Three days later, Hassan once again pulled the same woman to the side of her bed, pulled her by her legs and arms to a sitting position and pulled her to her feet by her arm and clothing.
Hassan was given a 48-month warning and was told the methods were “not safe and effective” while providing care to an extremely vulnerable and elderly service user.
The council added despite submitting comments to cooperate with their investigation, Hassan failed to accept any wrongdoing and has shown limited insight, remorse or regret for the behaviour.

The SSSC said: “You physically moved AA by pulling her arms, legs and clothing against her wishes. You also physically moved AA to the bathroom and removed her clothing. Your actions placed AA at risk of physical injury as well as emotional and/or phycological harm.
“You had received the relevant training from your employer in relation to manual handling of residents and would have been aware of the correct procedures in relation to handling residents, which you chose to ignore. Your actions demonstrate an abuse of power against a vulnerable individual and did not meet the relevant standards of practice.

“The behaviour is serious and demonstrates a concerning pattern of behaviour. You mishandled AA on two separate occasions and provided her with a poor standard of care. You have provided limited comments to the SSSC in relation to your behaviour and have not demonstrated any insight or remorse.
“You have not provided any assurance that you have learnt from your mistakes and if faced with a similar situation in the future, what course of action you would take.”
HC-One was approached for comment.
