West Yorkshire Police statement on Leeds car wash attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault at a car wash in Leeds.

A worker at a car wash in North Street in the Sheepscar area has been left with minor burns to his face after being sprayed with wheel cleaner at around 5.50pm yesterday (January 11). Officers were alerted to incident by a member of staff who had reported that a man has entered the premises and started spraying the containments of the bottle.

The car wash issued a statement saying it was an acid attack but police have now clarified that the attack involved wheel cleaner.

West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that victim received treatment at the scene and the intruder has been arrested on suspicion of assault. A spokesman said: “At 5.50pm today (Saturday), police received a report of an assault at a car wash in North Street in the Sheepscar area of Leeds.

“The caller reported that a man had entered the premises and was spraying wheel cleaner at a member of staff. Officers attended and found a man with minor burns to his face.

“He received treatment at the scene. A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. No other corrosive substances were recovered.”
