Drivers are demanding answers after overnight snow left North Staffordshire’s roads gridlocked. A number of roads remain ‘impassable’ due to snow and flooding this morning.
The worst case has been on the A53 Newcastle Road, at Loggerheads, where ’20 lorries are stuck in the snow’. It comes as a yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in force until midday today.
Gritting teams from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council were out gritting overnight.
But StokeonTrentLive readers have reported treacherous conditions.
Mark Stanley said: “I couldn’t get to work this morning. I see Stoke-on-Trent City Council were prepared.”
Marianna Shanessa said: “The roads are very slippery. They are not gritted between Milton and Burslem.”
Matthew Hancock said: “I went out this morning from the top of Longton. There were loads of cars sliding and stuck on Anchor Road. A gritter finally drove past us at 6am after 40 minutes of trying. I turned back – it was not worth an accident.”
Paul Wood said: “I love it how the gritters come out when it is too late and all the roads are full of snow.”
Chris Talbot added: “Where are the gritters this morning?”
StokeonTrentLive has approached Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council for statements regarding this morning’s roads chaos.
