Witness appeal after driver, 22, dies in Wolverhampton wall crash

Police have issued a witness appeal after a 22-year-old died in a crash in Wolverhampton. The man’s car hit a wall at the junction of Ettinghshall Road and Bilston Road in the early hours.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30am on Tuesday, January 7, and found the driver trapped in the vehicle in a critical condition. Firefighters helped to free the man, but despite the best efforts of medics, he was declared dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and were being supported by specially trained officers. West Midlands Police said Bilston Road, which was closed for several hours in the aftermath of the crash, has now reopened but the investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.

A force spokesperson said: “We’re appealing for witnesses after a 22-year-old man has sadly died after the vehicle he was driving struck a wall in Wolverhampton. Officers were called to Ettingshall Road at its junction with Bilston Road shortly after 1.30am this morning.

“Despite the best efforts from officers and our colleagues from the ambulance service, the man was declared dead at the scene. His family have been informed and our specially trained officers are supporting them at this difficult time.

“The Bilston Road has now reopened, but our investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. We are appealing for anyone with any information, including dash cam footage, to please contact us.”
