Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses and have asked anyone who was in the vicinity of Bridewell Lane between 9 pm last night, Thursday, 2nd January, and this morning, Friday, 3rd January 2025, at 10 am to come forward. They are also interested in any available camera footage or dash cam recordings.

A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Mallow Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) has also been assigned to support the family.

Local TD, Ken O’Flynn has extended his sympathies to the woman’s family and said a ‘dark cloud’ is hanging over the tight-knit community today.

He said: “The shock and sorrow felt by our residents is palpable. It appears that the woman was well-known and respected among her friends and neighbours, which makes this tragic event hit even harder. In a small town like Mallow, we are all interconnected, and when something happens to one of us, it affects us all.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this lady, as well as all those who knew and loved her. I urge everyone to come together during this difficult time, supporting each other as we process this heartbreaking news.”
