Yate community raises funds for Willow Tree Centre after personal tragedy

When life hands you heartbreak, sometimes the best way forward is through compassion and a sprinkle of flour; that’s exactly what Dave and his colleagues at Stevens Hewlett Perkins did, turning their loss into a legacy of support for The Willow Tree Centre In 2023 Dave and Lauren contacted The Willow Tree Centre in Yate seeking support following the difficult loss of their baby.

They said it meant so much to them both to receive the support and be helped in coming to terms with their loss. Dave said that it really helped him and gave him the opportunity to share his feelings in a safe space. Dave works for Stevens Hewlett and Perkins and each year they choose a local charity to raise funds for. Dave nominated The Willow Tree Centre and so this year, they have been working hard to raise funds for the centre.

They managed to raise £2,586.30 with activities including a bake sale where staff baked cakes and brought them into the office to sell to staff. Food from around the world sale where staff were invited to bring a dish from their home country, village, city, or county to sell to staff. A Euro 2024 sweepstake and an SHP February fitness challenge in which staff were split into 4 teams and over the course of February the aim was for each team to cover as many kilometres as possible (by walking, cycling, running and/or swimming). At the end of the month, the total kilometres raised by the winning team was matched for pounds by the partners of the firm.

Helen Adair from the Willow Tree Centre said: “What a wonderful achievement by a team of around 40 employees. Dave and Lauren have welcomed baby Jack into their family since their support at The Willow Tree Centre and it was wonderful to meet him too.”
