A Year 12 student has been left fighting for his life after a stabbing near Shooters Hill Sixth Form College yesterday (Monday, January 6). Students at the college in Woolwich have been told to stay at home today as the school has closed.
An 18-year-old was rushed to hospital following a stabbing on Prince Imperial Road yesterday at around 4.20pm. He remains in a critical condition following the incident.
Police have launched an investigation into the stabbing, although no arrests have been made at this time. Shooters Hill Sixth Form College confirmed that the young man is one of their Year 12 students.
Principal Geoff Osborne said: “At approximately 4.20pm yesterday in Prince Imperial Road close to the college a young man who is in Year 12 at Shooters Hill Sixth Form was stabbed.
“This incident continues to be investigated by the police, and we are not in a position to release more details other than that the young man is receiving medical care for his injuries.
“The college is offering support and counselling to anyone who has been affected by the incident. Our thoughts are with the family and the victim, and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time.”
The sixth form college remains closed to students today. A note of the sixth form college’s website says that parents, students and careers will be updated via text messages. It also states that students who are sitting exams should arrive as planned as these will still be going ahead.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Police were called at approximately 4.20pm on Monday, January 6 to reports of a stabbing in Prince Imperial Road. Officers responded to the scene and found an 18-year-old man suffering from stab wounds.
“He was treated at the location before being transported to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
