Young Essex man dies after serious Purleigh crash that shut road for hours

A young man has died following a serious crash on an Essex country road, with another arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police are investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash in Purleigh earlier this week.

Officers were called to the scene of a one-vehicle collision in Hackmans Lane shortly after 2.30am on Monday (January 6). Sadly, police have now confirmed a man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed. A second man, aged in his 20s, from Brentwood, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue. The road was shut for several hours but is now fully reopened after investigation work at the scene was completed.
