A young man has been left “distraught” after being punched, spat on and drenched in alcohol on his way home from work.
The 22-year-old was walking home from the city centre to the Gorbals area when he was attacked on Old Rutherglen Road around 9.30pm on Friday, December 27. During the frightening ordeal, he was “punched multiple times, subjected to verbal racial abuse and spat on several times”.
It is also understood that the Muslim man, who doesn’t drink alcohol due to religious reasons, had a can of cider poured over him in the vicious attack. Now, his furious mum is urging Police Scotland to bring his female attacker to justice amid concerns that they will get away with a “slap on the wrist”.
The mum, who wishes to remain anonymous due to fears over her family’s safety, told Glasgow Live: “He was called the P-word and other racist slurs.
“She also threw alcohol (cider) all over my son who came into the house drenched. He does not drink and was absolutely distraught.
“When my son reached our home, she attempted to force entry into our close while kicking and pulling at him. He managed to push her away and secure entry without her following, but she continued to scream at the door.
“I asked if he was okay and he told me he was punched multiple times on his face. When he was removing his hoodie, he said it smells and that hit me more, being a Muslim and having someone throw alcohol on you; I was angry and thought how dare she.
“She punched him so hard that he lost his glasses. Most of the people have Ring doorbells so we asked a neighbour if he had footage of the incident and he showed us the video on his phone which caught a woman running past the street shouting and screaming.”

The woman is described as white and ‘in her 20s with thin brown hair’. She was wearing thick glasses, a puffy jacket and Converse or Jordans trainers.
The mum-of-two added: “She exhibited aggressive behaviour, shouting abuse at my son as well as at neighbouring houses along Ballater Street, Commercial Road, and Old Rutherglen Road.
“I’ve been in this area for more than 20 years and it’s the first time something like this has happened. I no longer feel safe for my children. I am either standing in the window or constantly calling both my kids to make sure they are safe.
“My son is a very calm person and not aggressive. I asked why didn’t you punch back and he said it’s because she was a woman.
“He has never touched it (alcohol) in his life and it was thrown at him.
“I am concerned about the police not doing anything and the person will just get a slap on the wrist. I want this to be taken further.”

Appealing for witnesses to come forward, she said: “I would greatly appreciate any information regarding the progress of this case. If anyone has footage, such as ring doorbell recordings of this event, it would be incredibly helpful.
“We have already received some helpful insights from people along Old Rutherglen Road and are aware of what she looks like, but any further information would be deeply appreciated.”
Police Scotland are investigating the incident, and a spokesperson told Glasgow Live: “We received a report of an assault on a 22-year-old man at Commercial Road, Glasgow, around 9.30pm on Friday, 27 December, 2024.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
