Young man dies in Lamborghini crash which closed A38 near Derby for 11 hours

A young man has died following a crash which closed a main road near Derby for 11 hours. The A38 was shut, between the A511 for Mickleover and the A50 near Findern, from the early hours of this morning (Monday, January 6).

The collision involved a green Lamborghini Urus and occurred on the A38 near Mickleover Golf Club at around 2.45am this morning. The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger of the car, a woman, also in her 20s, has suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where she remains this afternoon. The crash caused the busy commuter road to close for 11 hours from 3am until 2pm this afternoon while the collision was investigated by officers from Derbyshire police.

The southbound carriageway had reopened by around 6.30am, with the northbound stretch reopening at around 2pm. Motorists faced long delays during morning rush hour.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident and who was driving in the area and might have dashcam footage. A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: “The driver of the Lamborghini, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are aware and our thoughts are with them.
